Slubby and tangled fibers of silk are combed and cut in a parallel alignment and turned into silk tops. Then, the shorter and aligned fibers are carded to make a continuous strand which is called silk sliver. This silk is very fine, 10-15 microns and takes dye well. It is utilized to make spun silk yarn and silk noil yarn or to blend with other textile fibers such as cotton, wool, linen, modal and bamboo.
